Biography

Cris Sales is a plant physiologist interested in how plants respond to different environmental conditions. She is particularly fascinated by the flexibility of the carbon concentrating mechanism in C4 plants. She obtained her MSc and PhD in Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture at Agronomic Institute (IAC, Brazil) studying the response of sugarcane to various abiotic stress conditions, including shade, water deficit and low temperature.

In 2016, Cris joined the Photosynthesis Group at Lancaster University (UK) under supervision of Dr. Elizabete Carmo-Silva. Her work focused in natural variation in CO2 assimilation in wheat (as part of the IWYP), and she gained a lot of experience in analysis of photosynthesis in vivo & Rubisco enzymatic assays.

Cris joined Kromdijk lab in June 2020 where she is studying maize photosynthetic performance in response to excessive light as part of the UK Research and Innovation.
