Tropical Ecology and Conservation
Research Overview
I have broad interests in conservation sciences. I’m interested in exploring opportunities for achieving conservation gains in human-modified landscapes, especially in restoration and productive landscapes. For my Ph.D. research, I’ll focus on studying the leakage effects of restoration programs, particularly exploring the deforestation and biodiversity loss resulting from local to global scale leakage caused by restoration efforts in sub-Saharan Africa.
Biography
I obtained my Bachelor's degree with 1st class Honors (Ecology and Environmental Sciences) at the Australian National University. My undergraduate thesis is a meta-analysis to explore the biodiversity and ecosystem services provided by native forests restored by multiple approaches. Prior to my Ph.D. studies, I also conducted fieldwork in southern China to investigate bird biodiversity in commercial timber plantations, and conducted interviews with local communities in Inner Mongolia to evaluate the ecological and social outcomes of a community-based restoration program aimed at combating desertification.
