BBSRC 4-year PhD Programme in Biosciences

Applications are now invited for studentships beginning in October 2014 Closing date: Tuesday 3rd December 2013

The University of Cambridge is offering up to 25 four-year BBSRC-funded studentships starting in October 2014. A wide range of projects is available across 19 world-class departments and research institutes under the broad themes of:

  • Basic Bioscience Underpinning Health
  • Bioenergy & Industrial Biotechnology
  • Food Security
  • World Class Underpinning Bioscience

The first year takes the form of an MRes, involving a structured programme of tailored training courses and two laboratory rotations, before progression to the three-year PhD. An exciting element of the programme is a three month internship to gain experience in a non-academic environment.

Students in relevant biological subjects who have, or are expecting to attain, at least an upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) are invited to apply. In addition, the interdisciplinary nature of many of the projects available and the training modules means that we also welcome applications from students with physical science and mathematical backgrounds who are interested in using their skills in addressing biological questions.
