Rental Deposit Loan Scheme

There is a rental deposit loan scheme for all current and prospective members of staff. The scheme offers an interest-free loan, up to the value of £3,000*, which members of staff can use toward meeting the cost of fees and deposits associated with moving into privately rented accommodation. The loan is administered by the Reward Team in the HR Division. Loan payments will be repayable through monthly payroll deductions over 10 months. Further information on the scheme, including the scheme rules and eligibility criteria.

Eddington (North West Cambridge Development)

is a new district located 2km northwest of the city centre of Cambridge which is being created to meet the University's long term growth. Designed to be a long lasting, sustainable and ambitious place, the long term masterplan includes 1,500 homes for University and College staff. The first phase includes 700 homes in Eddington for qualifying University and College key workers.

Postdocs employed by the University, Colleges, and Partner Institutes can apply to rent accommodation on the North West Cambridge (NWC) site.

Here is some information about what is available, how eligibility and priority on the waiting list is calculated and how to apply.

  • The first phase of accommodation consists of around 700 furnished 1 & 2 bedroom apartments. Maximum occupancy is a household of two adults and one child.
  • Rents on the NWC site are subsidised and will vary for each individual or household - they will be calculated based on 30% of household income.
  • To be eligible for NWC accommodation you must have a contract of at least 18 hours/week with the University, College, or Partner Institute - and you must have at least 12 months remaining on your contract.
  • You can apply now via the Accommodation Service website - you can find more info on how to do this and some things to bear in mind when applying for NWC housing here.
  • Applicants are placed on the waiting list for NWC accommodation in one of eight categories, with the highest priority given to those new to Cambridge.
