Gwen joined the lab in 2014 after completing her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of St Andrews. She is interested in the evolution of plant breeding systems and the interactions between plants and other organisms. Her project investigates anther morphology in Solanum through an integrative approach examining the significance, developmental genetics and evolution of different stamen morphologies. Solanum is a remarkably diverse, buzz pollinated genus displaying a large array of different anther morphologies. This project aims to improve understanding of how plants evolve to improve pollinator activity in a family which includes commercially important crop plants.
