Biography:

I am a marine biologist focusing on algal physiology and ecology, currently researching the metabolism of Polar Diatoms and their potential in biotechnology at the British Antarctic Survey and University of Cambridge. I have studied marine biology from college level and have focused on the ecology of macroalgae (seaweeds) and molecular physiology of microalgae (phytoplankton), specifically diatoms.

Research Interests

  • Metabolism of algae, focusing on diatoms.
  • Physiological, Metabolic and Genetic adaptations and evolution of diatoms and algae.
  • Impacts of global change on algae.
  • Environmental signalling of algae, and signal transduction pathways.
  • Plant and algal chemical defences against herbivores.
