Department of Plant Sciences

 

We are looking for a temporary technician to assist with the preparation of undergraduate practical classes in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Cambridge.

The role offers an excellent opportunity for a student aiming to study natural science at university level to gain experience in various laboratory techniques and working in a scientific environment.

We particularly encourage students taking Biology or Chemistry A levels. 

Purpose of role

To assist with the preparation of Undergraduate practical classes in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of laboratory consumables, dispensing solutions and setting up student equipment. 
  • Preparation of plant material for practical classes, grown in the department greenhouse as well at the Plant Growth Facilities located in the Botanic gardens
  • Setting up class materials and moving equipment, this is at times a physically demanding role.

Education

  • We encourage applications from students taking Biology/Chemistry A levels

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Further details

This post is for four days a week, 24 hours a week during the ten-week term:

  • 29 September to 5 December 2025
  • 5 January to 13 March 2026
  • T3 grade 1 £12.76/hour via the University of Cambridge Temporary Employment Service (TES)
