About
Daniel Marquand is a MPhil Postgraduate Student at the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge.
Biography
I am an MPhil student in the Department of Plant Sciences, researching global hotspots of species threatened by logging. Through geospatial analysis and trait modelling using the IUCN Red List and other large databases, I aim to determine (1) the extent of wood production threats to vertebrates, (2) where this threat is geographically concentrated, and (3) which ecological traits correlate with increased vulnerability to wood production.
Before my MPhil, I completed a BA in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. For my undergraduate dissertation, I investigated the long-term impacts of logging roads on carbon stocks in the rainforests of Malaysian Borneo. This research sparked my interest in tropical forest ecology and the complex socio-ecological challenges associated with deforestation and forest degradation. I am eager to continue my research in this field and contribute to the conservation of the world's forests. Before pursuing my MPhil, I earned a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. For my undergraduate dissertation, I studied the long-term effects of logging roads on carbon stocks in the forests of Malaysian Borneo. This project ignited my passion for tropical forest ecology and the intricate socio-ecological issues surrounding deforestation and forest degradation. I am enthusiastic about furthering my research in this area and supporting global forest conservation efforts.
