Biography
Crop improvement is an important part of ensuring food security under increasing pressure from the climate crisis and growing population. My PhD is situated within the “Acquiring Knowledge to Accelerate Yield in gain in Akaya (AKAYA)” project, which aims to promote the agronomic value of orphan crop Gynandropsis gynandra. This includes developing genomic resources to facilitate efficient breeding strategies for crop improvement, and improving photosynthesis in order to boost productivity. Ultimately, we hope that working to improve this underutilised crop will promote agrobiodiversity, and contribute towards bolstering food security.
