Department of Plant Sciences

Vacancies

All our vacancies are listed on the University of Cambridge's jobs site. We welcome approaches from candidates who are applying for independent Fellowships, such as Royal Society University Research Fellowships, BBSRC David Phillips, NERC or EU Marie Curie awards. See the School of Biological Sciences' website for information on research and funding.

Fellowships

The Department of Plant Sciences has exciting career development opportunities for Research Fellows, and therefore welcomes approaches from candidates who are applying for independent fellowships. Successful Fellows will be provided with office and lab space, resources for research and access to our facilities. Contact Department Administrator Catherine Butler for more information or to express your interest. Find more information in our research fellowships document and applying for fellowships document.

Academic visitors

Each year we accept a number of academic visitors depending on available space. Academic visitors have access to the Department's facilities, lectures, seminars and events. There is a charge of £100 per month to cover the provision of facilities, but in special circumstances it's possible for this to be reduced. The Department is unable to provide accommodation but the Cambridge Society for Visiting Scholars and University Accommodation Service may be able to help.

If you are interested in joining the Department as a visitor, you first need to contact a current member of staff and seek their agreement to host you in their group. You and your host should then complete the visitors form and send it to Department Administrator Catherine Butler. The UK Border Agency has introduced new entry rules for academic visitors from overseas. Please check with the Department Administrator in advance that you meet the UK Border Agency's entry rules for academic visitors from overseas.

Internships

If you are interested in joining the Department as an intern, you first need to contact a current member of staff and seek their agreement to host you in their group.

Working at the Department

We recognise and reward our staff as our greatest asset and offer a range of benefits to our staff. More details of these benefits can be found on University's Human Resources website. If you are relocating to Cambridge, you and your family are welcome to attend the Newcomers and Visiting Scholars Group, which provides an opportunity to meet other people new to the area.

The University Accommodation Service help members of the University and of affiliated institutions find homes and settle into life in Cambridge. They provide advice on renting arrangements and local facilities and access to a wide range of accommodation. There is also a rental deposit loan scheme for all current and prospective members of staff to use toward meeting the cost of fees and deposits associated with moving into privately rented accommodation.
