Reseach Overview
Plants produce a diverse range of compounds that are widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries due to their varied biological activities. My current focus in the Patron Lab is the metabolic engineering of Nicotiana benthamiana to optimise the production of high-value compounds. We aim to modify and optimise metabolic pathways using synthetic biology tools, as well as retarget biosynthetic pathways to the plastids, to enhance the production and accumulation of bioactive compounds.
