About
George Harpum is a Senior Research Laboratory Technician at the Crop Science Centre as part of the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge.
Biography
I completed a BSc Apprenticeship in Applied Bioscience in 2024, working in an industrial molecular biology lab which manufactured PCR mastermix. There, I investigated additives that improved PCR-inhibitor tolerance on crudely extracted plant samples, helped design and refactor several scripts for the bioinformatics department, and made improvements to the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for mass exports and improvements to our chemical storage system.
I now work in the Plant-Parasite interactions group under Dr Sebastian Eves-van den Akker, where I look forward to contributing to the important research and ensuring the group runs efficiently and smoothly.
