Chen Liu is a Research Laboratory Manager at the Crop Science Centre as part of the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge.
Biography
Chen holds a PhD in Plant Sciences (2021) and an MSc in Plant Genetic Manipulation from the University of Nottingham. His doctoral research utilized Petunia as a model system to investigate self-incompatibility mechanisms and associated gene expression within the Solanaceae family. Prior to his graduate studies, he completed his undergraduate degree in Forestry at Southwest Forestry University in Kunming, China.
From 2023 to August 2025, Chen was a member of the ENSA project team within Professor Giles Oldroyd's group at the Crop Science Centre. During this period, he was heavily involved in research concerning root nodule formation in cereals.
In August 2025, Chen joined Professor Uta Paszkowski's group. He currently assists in the management of the Cereal Symbiosis Laboratory, providing research support to a team of 27 members, including postdoctoral researchers, students, and technicians. Concurrently, he is responsible for conducting the laboratory experiments for an ongoing research project within the group.
