Hibberd Group: Reengineering photosynthesis for improved yield
Supervisor
Professor Julian Hibberd
Project outline
Photosynthesis is not optimised in crops, and yet controls maximum yield. To improve this fundamental process we aim to generate tools that allow engineering. Specifically we aim to generate a list of DNA parts that can be used to tune photosynthesis gene expression in specific cell types and in response to particular environmental cues, such as light. Our aim to to identify such regulators that are ancient and possess highly conserved function so that they can be deployed as broadly as possible in crops.
