CODE RED: Switching to pathogen defence

The Baulcombe Group has recently described the plant equivalent of antibody engineering as part of a project that may lead to broad spectrum disease resistance in crop plants. The long term benefits could be reduced loss of crops to pests and diseases without the need to spray expensive crop protection chemicals. The main author of the new work is PhD student Jake Harris and it is published in PNAS:
