Ian Henderson and colleagues report in Nature Genetics the fine-scale mapping of recombination rates in Arabidopsis thaliana. They find enrichment of recombination hot spots overlapping gene promoters which are associated with specific chromatin marks and DNA sequence motifs. Application of these findings may be used to accelerate crop breeding.
