Plant Sciences is the large Edwardian building visible through the arches on the South side of Downing Street. Go through the arches and enter the Department via the door on the front right hand side of the building. Please report to reception on arrival.
The usual method of travel from London to Cambridge is by train. A guide to the train services can be found here. Once you arrive in Cambridge we recommend taking a taxi from outside the railway station - the cost will be five or six pounds.
NOTE: 25 July-3 October 2016: Tennis Court Road will be closed to traffic during working hours between 8am and 6pm although the road will be open at weekends. Access to the Downing Site during these periods will only be by way of Pembroke Street and Downing Street.
We strongly recommend that you do not drive to Cambridge. The city is very congested and the University does not offer visitor parking. If you do choose to drive, the nearest car park is in the Grand Arcade on Corn Exchange Street, which is marked on the University Map. Because of the one-way system, approach the Grand Arcade via Pembroke Street and Downing Street. Maps of the roads around Cambridge are shown on the University Map.
If you know a parking space has been saved for you or if you are delivering be aware that if you use Satellite Navigation to find us the postcode CB2 3EA will take you to Downing Street, you will be stuck in the one way system and unable to get on site without doing a large detour. You can follow Sat Nav as long as you turn right just before you are told you have arrived. See further instructions, depending on which way you have been taken:
- If you aren't using Sat Nav follow signs for the Grand Arcade car park and, after you have turned into Pembroke Street, turn right into Tennis Court Road (you'll see the Archaeology museum on the corner) then the site is first left.
- If you have come down Lensfield Road and turned into Tennis Court road then the site is at the end on the right.
The closest major airport to Cambridge is London Stansted - about half an hour by road from Cambridge. There is a bus service from Stansted to Cambridge every hour. The same coach service goes to London Heathrow (an hourly service, with a journey time of about two hours) and to London Gatwick (about three hours).
Plant Sciences is within 5 minutes' walking distance of the Cambridge bus/coach station in Drummer Street. Details of the bus services can be found here.
