1.  How Plants Tell the Time

It may seem like a strange idea, plants telling the time. Like an Oak tree checking its watch to see what time in the afternoon it is, or a Dandelion observing the suns position in the sky to calculate how long before bedtime! Why should they even care what time it is?

The answer is simple really: a plant needs to understand its environment so it can carry out its various requirements at the most suitable time. Here I will explain that by understanding the changes in light and temperature that happen each day and over the year, a plant can know what time it is and can therefore prepare itself.
