Current research: Identification and characterization of triacylglyceride biosynthesis in algae for the purpose of future modification for biofuels production.
I am currently working on the identification and characterization of genes and their encoded proteins involved in the triacylglycerol (TAG) biosynthesis pathway in a few algal species. The enzymatic activity of different isoforms of TAG biosynthesis genes between and within species will be compared to give a clearer picture of the relative importance of different isoforms to the production of TAGs. The final aim of the project will be to identify specific points in the pathway that can be targeted to modify TAG yield and composition.
