Venue, arrival and accommodation
The Symposium will be held at the conferencing facilities of Clare College, Cambridge, located on Memorial Court, Queens Road, Cambridge CB3 9AJ. This includes the Riley Auditorium, coffee breaks, lunch and dinner (except for the Gala Banquet on Wednesday 17 August, 7:15 pm, Great Hall on Old Court, across the street). When asking for directions (taxi), you should specify Memorial Court on Queens Road, as Clare College has grounds on both side of the river.
When arriving at Memorial Court, make your way to the archway, to the Porter’s Lodge. The Porter will direct you to your room (on Memorial Court or Old Court, across the street, a couple of mins away) and the registration desk (opens Sunday 14 August 6 pm).
Registration fee includes accommodation (unless opting out). Seventy rooms have been reserved on College grounds, near the conferencing facilities (Lerner Court) – see Registration fee. A detailed brochure of all the facilities is accessible.
From Heathrow, if you want to avoid a costly journey in a cab, you can take the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station (15-20 mins journey) and then a five-stop journey (12 mins) on the underground from Paddington to King’s Cross. Transferring from the Paddington train station platform to the underground station is a bit of a hassle with luggage. Heathrow Express tickets purchased three months in advance are considerably cheaper than tickets bought on the day. Alternatively, you can take the underground with no change from Heathrow to King’s Cross, via the Piccadilly Line (55 mins).
Travellers landing at Gatwick can connect to Victoria station via the Gatwick Express rail service (30 mins journey), and from Victoria station to King’s cross via the Victoria line on the underground (8 mins).
There are also direct coach services between Heathrow or Gatwick and Cambridge city centre (at least 2 hrs 20 mins from Heathrow and 3 hrs 45 mins from Gatwick).
